John P. D'Agostino Sr., known professionally as Jon D'Agostino, was an Italian-American comic book artist born on June 13, 1929, who passed away on November 28, 2010. He built one of the most durable careers in American comics, accumulating credits as artist, inker, letterer, and writer across more than 2,300 issues spanning from 1949 into the 2000s.
Badge of Justice #3 (1955)
D'Agostino is most closely identified with Archie Comics, where he contributed steadily to flagship titles including *Life with Archie*, *Laugh Comics*, *Pep*, *Archie at Riverdale High*, and *Betty and Veronica Spectacular*, among others. His longevity with the publisher made him a foundational presence in the warm, humor-driven house style that defined Archie for generations of readers.
Charlie Chan #8 (1955)
Alongside his Archie work, D'Agostino played a quiet but historically significant role in the early Marvel era, working under the pseudonym Johnny Dee. In that capacity he lettered the lead story in *The Amazing Spider-Man* No. 1 (March 1963), a landmark issue in superhero comics history, as well as other notable early Marvel titles.
Charlie Chan #9 (1956)
He is a distinct figure from the French cartoonist Tony D'Agostino and from fellow early-Marvel letterer John Duffy, with whom he is sometimes confused in archival records. His remarkable span of active work reflects a professional commitment to the craft that few artists in the medium have matched.
