Out of This World #2
In "The Greater Jovians," two survivors of a torpedoed destroyer drift for days before boarding a ghostly sailing ship that shouldn’t exist—its rotting planks and invisible crew hint at a mystery deeper than the sea. Written by Jack Oleck and illustrated with eerie precision by Steve Ditko, this 1962 Alan Class gem unfolds with a chilling sense of isolation, as Adams and Sawyer find themselves trapped in a time and space that defies explanation. The cover by Dick Giordano captures the haunting stillness of their plight, making this a standout in early science fiction comics.

The American Destroyer Jeffries is torpedoed. Adams and Sawyer float for six days in a lifeboat until they see an old sailing ship. They climb aboard carefully as the ropes and wood are rotten. They walk the decks without the crew seeing them. They find a book written in Dutch - they are on board the Flying Dutchman. They decide to escape and fall in to the sea when a railing breaks away. They float for days clutching the railing. They are picked up by a Navy cruiser. Their papers show they were crew on the Jeffries which sank in WWI! So, where have they been since 1918?
