This issue contains two stories featuring Black Fury, the great horse. In "Pursued," Black Fury encounters wolves while grazing near clover patches by a shallow stream, and instinct compels him to protect defenseless puppies from the desert dangers, developing a sense of guardianship toward the newborn creatures until their mother returns. In "Horseshoe Luck," a cowboy named Kennedy is racing across the shimmering desert with tired horses, but finds his luck turning when Black Fury stumbles and loses a horseshoe, which the cowboy recovers and uses to catch up with the men ahead of him in the race.
