“A Scent's Worth”

A Halloween mix-up takes center stage on Jon D'Agostino's lively cover for this 1959 Blue Bird/Charlton issue, as a flustered superintendent insists that masks aren't allowed at school — only to be informed that one student's wild appearance is completely natural. The scene bursts with comic energy: Freddy and a crowd of teens react with wide-eyed delight while the exasperated administrator makes his case just outside the Superintendent's office. Rounding out the cover are five charming circular vignettes spotlighting characters including Black Fury, Wild Bill Hickok, Timmy the Timid Ghost, Li'l Genius, and the Masked Raider, making this a cheerful ten-cent package of fun from 1959.
