Nyoka and her companions are trapped in King Ungagu's village after being accused of killing a sacred white elephant. Facing execution by cobra trial, Nyoka manages to escape with the help of Mr. Hackett and Bwana Duboisi, who reveals he orchestrated the scheme to steal the tribe's treasure of rubies and emeralds. When Duboisi attempts to smuggle the sacred idols out of the village with dynamite at the cave mouth, Nyoka exposes his greed to the Huala people and prevents his escape, ultimately leading to his capture and the recovery of the stolen artifacts.

Nyoka rescues five survivors from a plane crash and nurses them back to health in the jungle, but when one of the party kills a sacred white elephant, the entire group faces a deadly trial by cobra ordered by King Ungasu. Drawing on her knowledge of an impending solar eclipse, Nyoka must convince the king of her magical powers to save them all from execution.
