"King of the Valley" features Black Fury the stallion leading ranchers to victory against outlaws who have outnumbered them in a fierce battle. After the outlaws flee and the valley creatures depart, peace is restored to Bitter Valley through the courage of a great horse and contented men. In a subsequent scene, old Josh rides Black Fury away to Montana, where the horse has despised to see men who once mistreated him, now rising like a promise to the sky. The issue also includes a subplot involving El Capitan, a character who mistreats a green stallion named Pobrecito and forces him to work, later giving him a mysterious drink while threatening violence if the horse doesn't improve.
