Written by Larry Hama and penciled by Mike Vosburg, with inks by Jon D'Agostino, colors by Christie Scheele, and letters by Rick Parker, the issue was released with a May 1983 cover date (on-sale February 8, 1983) under editor Denny O'Neil and editor-in-chief Jim Shooter. The book was part of a Hasbro-backed publishing and advertising push in which animated television commercials — technically promoting the comic, not the toys — were used to market the new 1983 action figure wave, a clever workaround that gave Hasbro far more animation airtime than standard toy-commercial regulations would have allowed. A second printing of the issue exists, consistent with the strong newsstand demand the series was generating by its first year.
