This issue contains two romantic stories. "Shadow of a Life" depicts a woman who, after Howard swept her off her feet, realizes she may have made a mistake by accepting his marriage proposal, as she truly loves someone named Bruce; the story follows her internal conflict as she complies with Howard's wishes despite her deeper feelings. "Speedy and Me" tells of a girl named Cathy who dismisses a boy called Speedy as a dope, but after he passes his exams and demonstrates his intelligence, she reconsiders her opinion and agrees to see him at a rally. A third story, "Love Is an Equalizer," involves a woman choosing between a man of modest means and one who prefers to lead his own life rather than be controlled by ambition.

Sometimes the right person makes all the differences disappear.

Speedy and Me

When a high school brain named Cathy gets assigned to tutor Speedy, the campus sports hero, for his critical exams, she discovers he's far sharper than his jock reputation suggests—and he's determined to make it to college on an athletic scholarship. As she helps him ace his tests, their unlikely connection deepens, but when his big game arrives and he bounds off to celebrate without her, Cathy thinks their brief bridge between two worlds has burned. Speedy has other plans, though, and he shows up at her door ready to prove that some divides are worth crossing.

When a young woman named Vivian gets chosen to assist the charming magician Chaldo during his stage show, she's swept up in the glamour of his world—so much so that her steady boyfriend Bruce grows concerned about where her heart truly lies. I Fell Hard

A young woman named Evelyn is determined to impress Greg Fallon on the ski slopes, despite her lack of experience with winter sports. When she loses her footing and tumbles into the snow, she fears the worst—but Greg's response surprises her in the best way possible.

Shadow of a Life
8 pp · Romance

Arline meets the charming Howard Sidney at work and falls fast, but as their engagement progresses, she finds herself molding every choice—from furniture to social clubs—to match his vision rather than her own. When a classmate named Josh Perry introduces her to the idea of thinking for herself during night school, Arline begins to question whether she's building a life with Howard or simply disappearing into his shadow.
