“Believe Me”

Charlton's teen humor series delivers a perfectly timed sight gag on this 1962 cover: Freddy cheerfully applies clippers to a very unhappy redhead who's been roped into the barber's chair — quite literally — while a crowd of amused onlookers watches from above. "Just think, Stuff — you are the first man to get a 'Freddy Mow Cut'! Now aren't you glad you volunteered?" reads the speech bubble, with the victim's "YEOW!" saying everything else. Cover art by Pat Masulli and Jon D'Agostino captures the breezy, slapstick charm that made Charlton's teen comics a dime well spent in 1962.
