Louise's mother is the private secretary to the head of Kinkaid Industries and tries to interest Louise into meeting Kinkaid's son. Instead Louise starts seeing unemployed actor Greg Cary. When Greg proposes, Louise feels she doesn't know enough about him and is worried about their careers. Then she discovers that Greg Cary is the stage name for John Kinkaid Jr.
