In "A Lonely Love," a woman reminisces about her coworker Pete, whom she rarely saw and loved from afar while he created lovely homes of stone and wood. When she finally confesses her feelings through a written list of things she wants, Pete misunderstands and agrees to marry her, but then leaves her for someone else, revealing his true intentions were financial rather than romantic. In a second story, Stella falls in love with Danny, an aspiring painter who dreams of giving up farming to pursue his art; though Danny initially seems devoted to her and promises never to abandon painting, he ultimately chooses to pursue his artistic ambitions over their relationship, leaving Stella heartbroken.
