Nyoka the Jungle Girl #22

Nyoka stands cool and composed in her leopard-print halter and white shorts, pistol in hand, as a feathered, face-painted warrior brandishes a blade and advances — with two more tribal figures closing in from the jungle behind him. The cover tagline promises "Danger… Thrills… in The Golden Snare!," and Maurice Whitman's cover art delivers exactly that atmosphere of tense, sun-dappled adventure. This 1957 Charlton issue is a fine snapshot of the era's action-heroine comics at their most vivid.
