My Little Margie's Boy Friends #8
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis issue contains two stories. In the first, Margie's multiple boyfriends compete to win her affection, with various schemes including one boy trying to impress her by claiming to have a shining car and money to spend. The story culminates with Margie realizing the boys are motivated by love when one of them smiles at her. The second story, "Captain Kid or The Captain of the Team," features a young boy who impresses others by catching a football, then gets selected as captain of the football team despite having obtained the ball through a risky chance rather than skill.
Margie is starstruck when she learns that her father knows the glamorous movie star Quirk Mouglas, and she begs him for an introduction during the star's visit to town. But as Margie spends the day with Quirk—skiing, swimming, and dancing—she begins to suspect that the sophisticated leading man might not be quite as talented (or as present) as his public image suggests. What Margie discovers about her crush's reliance on stand-ins leaves her with a lot to think about by evening.
Margie's got three boys clamoring to take her to the dance, but when she finally decides on one suitor, she discovers they've all mysteriously ditched her for someone named Lola—and she's determined to find out who this competition really is. What she uncovers sends her on a comedic mission to turn the tables, leading to a surprise breakfast party that doesn't quite go as planned.
Harvey pulls a fast one on his friends by claiming he's been chosen to play drums at the concert hall, but when he sneaks in to watch rehearsals, he accidentally finds himself pressed into service as the actual drummer for conductor Tuscowski. What starts as a dream gig turns chaotic when Harvey's unconventional playing—aided by a few unexpected interruptions—somehow impresses the maestro, leading to a wild finale neither Harvey nor his waiting friends could have predicted.
A country kid named Josh hits the city and catches the eye of Margie at a local dance—but when his clumsy, good-natured antics get a little too rowdy, Margie isn't sure what to make of him. Then Josh reveals he's actually Rock Rivers, a slick movie star, and the whole dynamic shifts in this 1957 teen romp that proves sometimes the real guy beats the polished act.
Captain Kid gets a football from a charity raffle and decides he's got the makings of a football team—with himself, naturally, as captain and quarterback. When his team finally takes the field, his bumbling leadership leads to a hilariously disastrous game where he runs the wrong direction, scores for the other team, and generally proves that owning the ball doesn't make you the brains of the operation.
