# My Secret Life #37 This issue contains two stories. "The Tangled Cord" depicts a woman deeply in love with a man named Tom who is blinded by their happiness to warning signs of trouble ahead. "Men Can Be Wonderful" follows reporter Cathy Barnes as she is assigned a story about a missing nuclear physicist, Dr. Bergen, and his wife who disappeared in a plane over the Amazon, with a special plane standing by to fly her to get the story. The visible pages of the main story show a woman orchestrating the social life of her husband through manipulation of their social club, inviting members to outings while secretly dominating his behavior, until a summer outing to Captain's Cove results in a boating accident during a storm where the couple finds themselves stranded and helpless in dangerous waters.

Cathy Barnes is a tough-as-nails reporter who can't stand men—especially the smug Lee Sanders—but when their editor assigns them together to cover a missing scientist in the Amazon, the jungle forces her to see her rival in a whole new light. Men Are Such Children
5 pp · Romance

A young woman looks back on the love she lost and realizes too late where she went wrong. Following her mother's advice to dominate her husband like a child, she spent their engagement pushing Hugh to conform to her social ambitions—until his pride and integrity finally broke under the weight of her demands. Now she understands that a real man can't be controlled, and that love requires sharing, not ruling.

The Tangled Cord
8 pp · Romance

A young woman named Alice finds her engagement to Tom tested when jealous rumors—sparked by innocent encounters with other men—create a widening rift between them. When a violent storm forces Alice and Tom's old friend Ernie to spend a harrowing night together at sea, Tom's suspicions reach a breaking point, and Alice must find a way to bridge the tangled cord of misunderstanding that threatens to unravel everything. A tender 1960 romance that explores how easily trust can fray when love meets small-town gossip.
