A ladder accident sequence follows, in which Mr. Wicker attempts to warn Atom about the bad luck of walking under a ladder, but the falling ladder nearly strikes the man instead, and Atom saves him from harm. The issue also includes a massive 8,000-prize giveaway contest offering numerous items including paint sets, record players, guitars, dolls, and other merchandise for children.
When Cuckoo Cat runs into Atom the Cat, he's caught smoking in an unconventional way—and the reason for his odd technique is as funny as it is broke. A lighthearted gag about making do with what little you've got, told in classic 1959 funny-animal style.
When Bad Luck Bill's owner Mr. Wicker wants to get rid of him because of his black fur, Atom the Cat devises a clever plan to change the man's mind—by painting himself black and taking Bill's place, then engineering a series of "accidents" that only Bad Luck Bill can prevent. As Mr. Wicker witnesses one miraculous rescue after another, his superstitious beliefs begin to shift in unexpected ways.
Cuckoo Cat finds himself in a bind when his new pants turn out to be far too long, leaving him stumbling and desperate for help—so he turns to Atom for a quick fix. It's a lighthearted two-page romp that proves sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
