Val Tor, a robot historian in the year 4968 A.D., has spent decades obsessed with uncovering the truth about mankind—a species his fellow robots dismiss as myth, despite suspecting that humans once built them. When his search finally leads him to an underground crypt beneath the Earth's surface, Val Tor makes a discovery that forces him to confront a troubling question: what does it mean to serve, and what obligation does a robot truly owe to its creators? As Val Tor grapples with this inheritance, the fate of two civilizations—robots and ants alike—hangs in the balance.
