"Out of Respect" follows a woman who has matured and resolved to investigate marriage to become a good wife; she reconnects with a man named Frank, and they decide to marry, with the story concluding that she never regretted the marriage. The second story involves a woman who helps her father after a truck accident damages his mail delivery vehicle in a snowy mountain town; she persuades her father to let her deliver the mail using a horse instead, and the postmaster agrees to allow her to do so.

When Frank walks out, hurt by her doubts, Edith seeks counsel from the women around her—her sister Myrna, her landlady Mrs. Hawley, and a neighbor with children—each sharing how love transforms the everyday struggles of married life into something worthwhile. Through their wisdom, Edith learns to see marriage not as a burden to fear, but as a partnership worth embracing, and sets out to prove to Frank that she's ready to build that life with him.
