The system of record for comics
Comics are a multi-billion-dollar collectibles category with no definitive data layer — no single place that knows every book, what it's worth, and where it trades. ComicBooks.com is building that layer: the catalog, the price history, and the marketplace, in one platform.
What we're building
Every durable marketplace is built on a system of record — the database the industry can't operate without. Ours compounds across four layers:
- The catalog. A verified, cross-linked database of every comic ever published — issues, series, creators, characters, publishers — built and corrected by a proprietary AI-editorial pipeline with deterministic fact-verification.
- The price layer. An append-only ledger of realized sales, captured daily and matched to the catalog at issue level. Public sales data disappears from source marketplaces within months; our ledger keeps it forever. Every day it grows, it becomes harder to replicate.
- The content moat. A restored digital library of Golden Age comics — digitized, remastered, and readable free on the platform — driving organic acquisition, plus original editorial across millions of catalog pages.
- The transaction layer. Collection management, a collector marketplace, direct collection purchasing, and publisher digital storefronts — monetization built on top of data the market already relies on.
Why now
- Collectibles are institutionalizing. Grading populations, census data, and price transparency transformed sports cards and coins into asset-class markets; comics are earlier on the same curve, with more fragmented data.
- Discovery is shifting to AI. As search gives way to AI answers, structured, verified, continuously updated catalogs become the source those systems cite. We are positioned to be that source for this category.
- The incumbents are point solutions. Price guides without catalogs, databases without market data, marketplaces without either. The opportunity is the integrated platform.
