Jeff Lemire, born March 21, 1976, in Canada, has built one of the most varied careers in contemporary comics, working as both a writer and artist across virtually every major publisher. He came up through the indie sphere, establishing his voice with the Essex County Trilogy and The Nobody before his profile expanded dramatically with Sweet Tooth, a post-apocalyptic fable that he wrote and drew and which later became a Netflix series produced by Team Downey, with Lemire serving as an on-set consultant.

His freelance work for Marvel brought him to titles including Moon Knight, Animal Man, Old Man Logan, and Extraordinary X-Men, while DC kept him busy on Green Arrow, Justice League Dark, Absolute Flash, and the sprawling New 52: Futures End event. At Image he co-created the science-fiction series Descender and the supernatural thriller Gideon Falls, and at Dark Horse he launched the superhero deconstruction Black Hammer alongside the personal graphic novel Mazebook.

Beyond page work, Lemire has collaborated with musicians on ambitious cross-media projects — contributing to Eddie Vedder's animated Matter of Time video and partnering with Gord Downie on Secret Path, a multimedia narrative. With credits spanning more than 777 issues across two decades of active work, his output reflects an unusual commitment to both mainstream storytelling and deeply personal cartooning, often blurring the line between the two.
