Gideon Falls #10

Andrea Sorrentino's cover for Gideon Falls #10 is a quietly unsettling piece of atmosphere: a lone church silhouetted in darkness sits at the base of a vast, golden sky, while billowing storm clouds above it are sliced into horizontal strata — as if reality itself has been cut into disconnected layers. The image captures everything that makes this Jeff Lemire series so compelling, that sense of the rural and the sacred hovering on the edge of something deeply wrong. With Dave Stewart's warm amber wash pressing down on that fractured sky, this 2019 Image Comics issue promises the kind of creeping dread the series does so well.
