Black Hammer Reborn #11

There's something quietly charming about the cover Caitlin Yarsky has crafted for this eleventh issue — a young girl in a superhero costume (complete with lightning-bolt emblem, mask, and cape) holds an orange tabby cat aloft over a wooden bowl, while a goggled boy leans in from beside a homemade wheeled contraption, the whole scene radiating a warmth that feels more backyard adventure than world-ending crisis. Jeff Lemire's Black Hammer Reborn has always balanced the grand and the intimate, and this 2022 Dark Horse installment wears that balance right on its sleeve. With colors by Dave Stewart and lettering by Nate Piekos, it's a beautifully crafted package that captures the series' knack for finding the human heart beneath superhero mythology.
