Extraordinary X-Men #11

Part of the 2016 "X-Men: Apocalypse Wars" crossover, this issue drops readers right into the chaos with a striking Humberto Ramos cover depicting Jean Grey — fierce in her green-and-gold costume, red hair whipping wildly — ensnared by a mass of razor-sharp dark tendrils, while a second figure is similarly consumed by the same churning darkness above her. Jeff Lemire and Ramos make it immediately clear that the stakes for the X-Men couldn't feel more dire. It's an unsettling, beautifully rendered image that perfectly captures the series at full dramatic tension.
