Men of War #8
Part of DC's New 52 initiative, Men of War #8 (2012) pairs the grim world of war comics with something far stranger — and Viktor Kalvachev's cover makes the promise vivid. A monstrous, grey-skinned figure in military gear lunges forward through splintering debris, while WWII-era aircraft and a tumbling human silhouette recede into a washed-out sky beneath Nazi banners. With Jeff Lemire and Matt Kindt co-writing a story titled "Frankenstein and G.I. Robot!" and Tom Derenick on interior art, this issue sits at a genuinely intriguing crossroads of battlefield grit and superhuman strangeness.
