Moon Knight #1
The cover of this 2016 series launch says everything with quiet, unsettling restraint — Moon Knight stands bound in a straitjacket, his white-wrapped face marked with a single red crescent moon, eyes staring out from shadow against a stark institutional wall. Greg Smallwood's artwork strips away the action-hero swagger and replaces it with something far more psychologically charged, while Jordie Bellaire's near-monochromatic palette makes that red crescent the only splash of color that matters. Jeff Lemire, Smallwood, and Bellaire announce from the very first page that this take on Marc Spector is going somewhere genuinely unsettling — "Welcome to New Egypt" is a strong promise.
