Phantom Road #2

Gabriel Hernández Walta's cover for issue #2 sets an unsettling, wide-open mood: two strange, clay-like humanoid figures stand with their backs to us on a desolate desert highway, watching a semi-truck roll past in the distance while a third figure lingers farther back. Jeff Lemire and Walta's collaboration at Image continues to promise something off the beaten path — literally and otherwise — with this atmospheric, quietly eerie series. If you gravitated toward the dusty dread of the first issue, this one's visual language suggests the strangeness is only deepening.
