Andy Lanning is an English comic book writer and inker whose decades-long career spans work for both Marvel Comics and DC Comics. Born in 1963, he broke into the industry in the late 1980s and has remained a consistent creative presence through the 2020s, accumulating credits across nearly a thousand issues as artist, inker, letterer, and writer between 1987 and 2023.
Infinite Crisis #3 (2006)
Lanning is perhaps best recognized for his long-running partnership with writer Dan Abnett, a collaboration that produced some of the most ambitious cosmic storytelling in Marvel's modern era. Their work on *Nova* and *Guardians of the Galaxy* helped reshape and revitalize Marvel's space-faring corner of the universe, laying narrative groundwork that would later influence the studio's film properties. On the DC side, the pair made their mark with titles including *Resurrection Man*, *The Legion*, *Fate*, and *Majestic*, demonstrating a versatility that moved fluidly between superhero reinvention and science fiction world-building.
Bloodstone #1 (2001)
As an inker, Lanning developed a reputation for clean, dependable craft that served a wide range of pencilers across mainstream genre titles. His career reflects a steady professionalism rather than a single defining moment — a body of work built issue by issue, and one whose influence on cosmic superhero comics, in particular, has proven surprisingly durable.
