In this pivotal issue of The Mighty Avengers #17, the Skrull impersonating Yellowjacket begins to fracture under the weight of Hank Pym’s lingering identity, convinced the Secret Invasion is doomed. When Dugan and S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t sway him, they make the call to eliminate him—only for a new Skrull to take his place, continuing a cycle the alien empire refuses to abandon. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Khoi Pham with inks by Danny Miki and Andy Lanning, the story unfolds with tense psychological depth, its cover by Aleksi Briclot capturing the uneasy shift in identity.

The Skrull who is posing as Yellowjacket assimilates too much of Hank Pym's personality and is convinced that the Secret Invasion will end in failure for his people. When Dugan and S.H.I.E.L.D. cannot convince him otherwise, they kill him and a new Skrull takes his place. This has happened before, but the Skrulls are determined to create a Hank Pym who will stay loyal to the cause.
