Iceman #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis 2001 Marvel limited series kicks off with a strikingly moody cover by Steve Uy, depicting Bobby Drake in a long dark coat, his hands crackling with ice energy as jagged frozen columns rise around him in a cold blue haze — a far cry from the lighthearted snowball-slinger of earlier years. Writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, with art by Karl Kerschl, take the wheel for this four-part "Icons" series titled "The Iceman Cometh." The cover alone signals a more grounded, introspective take on one of the X-Men's longest-serving members.

Bobby flies to Hong Kong to be reunited with old flame, Opal Tanaka. After taking on a number of odd opponents at the airport, Bobby catches up with Opal at her workplace, Winterbrand Technologies. Opal's boss, Alain Weiss, gives him a tour of the complex and he is shown a chamber that contains a little mutant baby whose ice powers are unstable. Bobby is shocked to find that this a son he never knew he had as Opal kept the child a secret from him. When Bobby tries to contact Beast to find out more about Winterbrand, he is attacked once again by Weiss' Augmen.
