The series was co-written by Andy Lanning and novelist Graham Marks, with interior art by Phil Gascoine (who also contributed pencils) and inks by Kev Hopgood on the first issue, under editor John Freeman. Bryan Hitch, already working across the Marvel UK line, provided the cover. The Genetix team itself was conceived by the Lanning/Marks/Gascoine trio as part of Marvel UK's deliberate editorial strategy under editor-in-chief Paul Neary, which called for original US-format titles set in the main Marvel Universe but inflected with British genre sensibilities — science fiction, body-horror, and moral ambiguity — and threaded through a shared villain organization, Mys-Tech. Consistent with that house policy, the issue was released with a Wolverine guest appearance, in keeping with the Marvel UK practice of featuring recognizable American characters to broaden reader appeal, with all US-character storylines approved by their respective American editors.
