Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #123

Part one of "Underground Railroad" opens this November 1999 installment of Legends of the Dark Knight, rendered in Bill Sienkiewicz's richly atmospheric painted style. Batman looms large in the foreground, one gloved hand outstretched, while beneath him a collage of figures — a woman in the center, two men in a tense confrontation to the left, and another figure to the right amid industrial scaffolding — evokes a city fractured by the No Man's Land banner running along the left edge.
