Spider-Man has secretly replaced Mac Gargan on the Dark Avengers. Norman reveals to his team that their newest member will be his son Harry dressed in Captain America-like armor and called American Son. Harry finds Lily in Avengers Tower and promises to cure her of the goblin serum. Daken sniffs out the fact that Peter is impersonating Mac's version of Spider-Man and attacks. Spidey wins the battle but is ratted out by Harry who tells his dad that the Spider-Man in front of him is the real deal. Hawkeye shoots Spider-Man in the legs and Norman pulls out a gun and shoots him in the face.
