The Thing has never looked quite like this — Scott Kolins and Andy Lanning's cover presents Ben Grimm from an unexpectedly humble angle, his massive rocky back turned to us as he hunches over a fire hydrant, lollipop in hand, blue shorts and all. It's a disarmingly funny image that sets the tone for this 2002 Marvel "Icons" miniseries, written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Kolins, promising a story called "Rock Bottom" that clearly isn't afraid to find the humanity — and the humor — in Marvel's favorite lovable tough guy.
