Superman / Batman #58

Part two of "Nanopolis" finds DC's greatest duo in a striking predicament: Superman soars upward in full regalia while Batman grapples fiercely inside what appears to be a massive, swirling mechanical vessel engulfed in fire and energy — a cover composition by Whilce Portacio (pencils) and Rob Hunter (inks) that crackles with urgency and scale. The contrast between Superman's aerial ascent and Batman's close-quarters struggle within the churning machinery gives this 2009 issue a genuinely cinematic tension. Writers Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Mike Johnson are clearly putting the World's Finest through their paces in ways that make this chapter of "Nanopolis" feel anything but routine.
