Mark Waid, born March 21, 1962, is an American comic book writer whose career spans more than three decades and over a thousand published issues. He broke into the industry in the late 1980s and steadily built a reputation for character-driven superhero storytelling rooted in an encyclopedic knowledge of comics history.

He is perhaps most recognized for his long, defining run on DC's The Flash, a series that became closely associated with his name, as well as the celebrated miniseries Kingdom Come and the Superman origin retelling Birthright. On the Marvel side, he made significant contributions to Captain America, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil, and has also worked extensively on Avengers, JLA, and Archie Comics titles. Beyond freelancing, Waid took on editorial leadership at Boom! Studios from 2007 to 2010, serving as Editor-in-Chief and later Chief Creative Officer. During that period he also developed the creator-owned titles Irredeemable and Incorruptible. He later joined Humanoids Publishing in 2018 as Director of Creative Development, eventually rising to Publisher before returning to freelance work in 2022.
