52 #2
This volume collects issues #27-52 of the 2006-2007 weekly series 52, which chronicles the real-time adventures of DC Universe characters in the year following the events of Infinite Crisis. Focusing on lesser-known heroes and supporting players like Booster Gold, Steel, and the Question, the storyline weaves together multiple subplots involving the missing year of the world's greatest superheroes.
In "Sand and Rust," Booster Gold hits rock bottom and pushes Skeets for a heroic comeback, only to be sent chasing a seamonster terrorizing downtown Metropolis—just as Supernova steals the spotlight once more. Meanwhile, in Kahndaq, the Question and Montoya make their way through a tense encounter with local police, seeking answers amid growing unrest. Written by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, and Mark Waid, with art by Keith Giffen and Shawn Moll, and cover by J. G. Jones.
In "Sand and Rust," the Question and Montoya press forward in their investigation across Black Adam’s homeland, uncovering secrets buried beneath the desert sands. Meanwhile, Steel struggles to recover from a brutal attack, Natasha still a looming threat, while Magnus faces mounting pressure to hand over the Metal Men to the government—just as the androids begin to stir back to life.
In "Outshined," Booster Gold, desperate to reclaim his fading fame, follows Skeets’ lead to a monstrous threat in Metropolis—only to be overshadowed yet again by the dazzling Supernova. Meanwhile, the Question and Montoya navigate a tense moment of respite in Kahndaq, stepping away from the local police’s uneasy welcome.
In "Uhebbuki," the Marvel Family journeys to Kahndaq for the wedding of Black Adam and Isis, a moment of celebration shadowed by danger when Montoya thwarts a bombing attempt. Meanwhile, high above, Adam Strange and his team finally escape the remote planet they've been stranded on.
In "Last of the Czarnians," Jo finds herself hunted across a desolate asteroid, her only ally a gruff, unpredictable Lobo who’s just as out of place as she is. With no memory of her past and a mysterious connection to a long-dead alien race, she must survive both the harsh environment and the shadow of a legacy she doesn’t understand.
In "Dismantled," the aftermath of the royal wedding casts a long shadow as Black Adam pays quiet tribute to the fallen, while Montoya wrestles with her own demons, longing to retreat into silence. The Detective Chimp and Ralph face loss within the Croatoan Society, their grief deepened by the mysterious influence of the Helm of Fate, leaving the Shadowpact uneasy about what the artifact’s power might mean for Ralph.
In "History Repeats," Jo and Daniel Carter confront the past when Skeets guides Daniel back to Rip Hunter's bunker, unraveling secrets long buried. Meanwhile, Adam and his crew navigate a desolate galaxy, where Lobo's unexpected faith adds a strange new layer to their journey—while Supernova finally meets Wonder Girl, setting the stage for something neither expected.
In "God Is Fragged," Supernova’s unexpected visit to the Batcave stirs tension as Steel uncovers troubling updates on Luthor’s synthetic super-hero project, while Adam’s team finds themselves targeted by the relentless force of Ekron. The story unfolds with sharp urgency, blending high-stakes espionage and personal stakes in the ongoing war for control.
In "Burial Ground," Lex Luthor grapples with the mystery of Supernova’s identity as Jon Standing Bear arrives in Metropolis, drawn by an ancient summons he never asked for. Meanwhile, Steel crosses paths with a disillusioned Everyman project member, and Doc Magnus faces yet another government visit—each thread weaving into a story that’s as much about legacy as it is about the unknown.
In "The Island of Professor Morrow," Professor Magnus arrives on Oolong Island, drawn into a mysterious gathering of vanished scientists, while the Question, Montoya, Black Adam, and Isis uncover Amon, Whisper, and an enigmatic book—unraveling a puzzle that stretches beyond the island’s shores.
In "Just Imagine," Firestorm reaches out to mayoral candidate Oliver Queen as he tries to rebuild the Justice League, while Skeets attempts to lure someone from the shadows. Black Adam grapples with his global allies, J’onn confronts the unraveling of his Checkmate dismantling, and Waller reverts to her familiar, calculating methods—all in the final week of a chaotic year.
In "Liminal Times," Jo confronts the escalating cost of magic while Mannheim's schemes for Gotham reach a critical point, and the shadow of Checkmate begins to tighten. As Sabbac clashes with five Marvels and the enigmatic master of Oolong Island reemerges, long-buried threads start to pull taut across the city’s fractured landscape.
In "Halfway House," the Black Marvel Family shares a tense meal with their longtime foes, the Sivana Family, as Venus seeks unexpected aid amid rising tensions. On Oolong Island, a mysterious new presence stirs, while Osiris forms an unlikely bond with someone who might just understand him.
