Captain America: To Serve and Protect #[nn]
In "The Return of Steve Rogers, Captain America," a shocking twist shakes the foundation of the hero’s identity as the Sensational Hydra unleashes a shapeshifting impostor who mirrors Captain America’s every move. Written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Ron Garney, this 2002 issue sees Steve Rogers confronting Hydra operatives—some of whom are secretly Skrulls—only to be captured and replaced in a scheme that blurs the line between hero and imposter. The cover by Ron Garney and Bob Wiacek captures the tension of a Captain America divided against himself.
