Ka-Zar #5
Ka-Zar meets one of Marvel's most brutish heavy-hitters in this September 1997 issue, as the cover — penciled by Andy Kubert and inked by Jesse Delperdang — puts the Rhino front and center, charging through a shower of rubble with Ka-Zar riding his back and hanging on for dear life. The raw kinetic energy of that image, debris exploding in every direction, captures exactly the kind of collision you'd expect when the lord of the Savage Land crosses paths with a nearly unstoppable force of nature on city streets. Mark Waid's "Life in the Big City" promises a fish-out-of-water dynamic with real physical stakes, and this cover makes a convincing case that Ka-Zar's urban adventure hits hard.
