“Race against Time, Chapter Three: Speed Metal”

In "Race against Time, Chapter Three: Speed Metal," Wally West hurtles into the 27th century, joining forces with the era’s Flash, John Fox, to stop the time-warping threat of Chronos—though they face resistance from the cold, mechanical enforcers known as Speed Metal. Meanwhile, in the present, Linda stands firm against Chillblaine, who’s silenced by his own allies, leaving the fragile bond between John and Linda hanging in the balance as Wally reaches for the Speed Force, tethered only by his connection to her. Written by Mark Waid and brought to life by Oscar Jimenez, Jim Cheung, and a stellar team of inkers, colorists, and letterers, with a cover by Oscar Jimenez and José Marzán Jr., this 1996 issue blends high-speed action with emotional stakes, all in a 1.75 USD (2.50 CAD) package.

Wally West arrives in the 27th century and teams with the Flash of that era, John Fox, to defeat Chronos, despite the protests of the robotic authorites, Speed Metal. In the present, Linda saves John Fox from Chillblaine, who is dispatched permanently by his co-conspirators. Wally taps into the Speed Force and uses his anchor to the 20th century, Linda, to head for home, but the relationship between John and Linda in the present might have severed that connection.
