Deadpool #2
Deadpool (1994) #2 — titled 'Luck of the Irish' — is the second chapter of the four-part 'Sins of the Past' miniseries, Marvel's second solo Deadpool limited series and the one that began giving the character genuine emotional texture beyond his mercenary origins. The issue contains the first appearance of Daniel Peyer, a morally compromised Interpol agent and former partner of Banshee whose vendetta against Deadpool adds a rare grey-area human antagonist to the cast. Perhaps more consequentially for the long arc of the character, this miniseries as a whole is where the Deadpool–Siryn dynamic is seeded, a flirtatious partnership that would be revisited across multiple titles for years. The series also marks the first time writer Mark Waid worked for Marvel Comics, making issue #2 part of a debut run for one of the medium's most celebrated craftsmen of the decade.
In "Luck of the Irish," Deadpool finds himself caught in a deadly crossfire when Black Tom unleashes the Juggernaut to capture him—intent on using the merc's healing abilities to cure his worsening condition. With Siryn caught in the middle and Interpol’s Daniel Peyer closing in, the chaos escalates as Deadpool’s usual chaos meets brute force and high-stakes intrigue. Written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Ian Churchill, with inks by Bud LaRosa and colors by Dana Moreshead and Mike Thomas, this 1994 issue features a cover by Ian Churchill and Bud LaRosa.

The 'Sins of the Past' miniseries arose because Marvel editorial rejected Fabian Nicieza's proposed follow-up to 'The Circle Chase,' deeming it too grim — Nicieza had wanted Wade's cancer to recur and drive the plot. Mark Waid, who was simultaneously building his reputation on DC's The Flash, was brought in instead, making this four-issue run his maiden Marvel assignment. Waid scripted all four issues; pencils on issue #2 were shared by Ian Churchill and Lee Weeks, with inks by Jason Minor, Bob McLeod, and Bud LaRosa — a crowded production roster that reflects the mid-1990s Marvel practice of shipping issues on aggressive schedules. Editor Suzanne Gaffney and group editor Bob Harras oversaw the series under editor-in-chief Tom DeFalco.
