Willingham first made his mark with *Elementals*, a superhero series that demonstrated his ability to blend genre conventions with darker, more character-driven storytelling. That reputation for layered narrative grew considerably when he launched *Fables*, the work for which he is perhaps best known — a long-running series that reimagined fairy-tale and folklore characters living in exile in modern New York.
