Fables #93
This May 2010 Vertigo entry in Bill Willingham and David Lapham's celebrated series presents a hauntingly painterly cover by Joao Ruas — a massive, hooded axe-wielding figure looms above a crowd of formally dressed onlookers, while a brooding blue troll-like face dominates the foreground, with dark birds circling overhead. The atmosphere is equal parts fairy-tale dread and Old Master oil painting, perfectly suited to the second half of "The Little Murder." It's a striking package from a creative team clearly at the top of their game.
