Part 5 of 9 in "The Great Fables Crossover," this July 2009 Vertigo issue brings together the Jack of Fables and Fables casts for an ambitious nine-part event by Willingham, Sturges, Braun, and Marzán. Brian Bolland's cover is a striking composition: a grinning dark-haired woman in a red jacket strides confidently forward while a snarling, coat-wearing ape lunges toward her, and a trio of tiny winged fairies tumbles chaotically through the air above them. The contrast between the woman's cool amusement and the raw menace of the ape gives the image a wonderfully offbeat energy that perfectly captures the series' blend of the whimsical and the wild.
