This haunting James Jean cover sets an unsettling tone for "Sons of Empire," the opening chapter of what promises to be a weighty story arc in Bill Willingham's celebrated Vertigo series. Two young boys move through a pale, skeletal woodland — one staring out with an unnervingly solemn gaze while the other turns away, a small weapon in hand — their ghostly surroundings suggesting something far more ominous than childhood play. The issue also features a backup story by Gene Ha, making this October 2006 installment a particularly rich read for Fables fans.
