The tagline says it all — "There are men. There are real men. And then there is… Jack." Vertigo's 2006 spin-off series hits its second issue with a cover by James Jean that perfectly captures the scrappy charm and danger surrounding the world's most self-assured Fable: Jack himself, in a sharp suit and loosened tie, raises a cane defiantly while a young blonde woman clings to his side, the pair surrounded by a swirling gallery of monstrous faces — glowing red eyes, bared fangs, grotesque figures — pressing in from every direction. Written by Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges with interior art by Tony Akins and Andrew Pepoy, this issue promises the same blend of fairy-tale mythology and roguish humor that makes Jack such an irresistible antihero.
