“Jack Be Nimble Chapter One”
About this Collection

This deluxe hardcover collects issues #34–45 of the acclaimed Vertigo series, continuing the epic saga of fairy tale refugees living in modern-day New York. The volume includes the 'Homelands' story arc, where Bigby Wolf journeys to the Adversary's realm, and the 'Arabian Nights (and Days)' arc, which introduces characters from the Arabian fables. Features a larger trim size, restored coloring, and a gallery of cover art by James Jean.

In "Jack Be Nimble Chapter One," Sinbad faces the consequences of Yusuf’s actions, but instead of punishment, he’s given a chance to rebuild—offering to uphold Fabletown’s laws in a new settlement modeled after Baghdad’s version of the town. With King Cole as his liaison and freed slaves choosing to stay, Sinbad begins a fragile new chapter, balancing loyalty, justice, and the uncertain future of a community still learning to coexist. Written by Bill Willingham and illustrated by Mark Buckingham, with inks by Steve Leialoha and Andrew Pepoy, colors by Daniel Vozzo, and letters by Todd Klein, the issue’s striking cover by James Jean captures the story’s quiet tension and promise.

Determining that Yusuf acted on his own, Sinbad and his slaves are spared death by the forces of Fabletown. Instead, Sinbad offers to follow the laws of Fabletown in Baghdad’s version of Fabletown that he is setting up. To that end, he frees all of his slaves, some of whom chose to stay in Fabletown. King Cole joins him as a liaison between the two towns.
