Fables Compendium #3
"The Great Fables Crossover, Part 1 of 9: The Call" marks a pivotal moment in the Fables universe, as Bill Willingham's layered storytelling takes a dark turn with Sigi's tragic end and the escalating war in Story City. With art by Jim Fern and Craig Hamilton, inks by Hamilton, Snyder, Farmer, and Fern, and colors by Lee Loughridge, the issue unfolds with visceral intensity, setting the stage for a city on fire—both literally and politically. Mark Buckingham’s striking cover captures the tension, but the real drama lies in the aftermath of collapse and the grim resolve of Bigby as he prepares for what comes next.

Recognizing that their lives and their systems have collapsed, Sigi commits suicide. Bigby and the Spezialeinheit make war throughout Story City, burning much of it in the process. Carl orders his followers to burn fellow members of the community in hopes of killing Bigby at the same time. Bigby hunts and slays the Spezialeinheit members, sparing only two for his own purposes, and orders a mass gathering on the morrow.
