This 2006 German-language Panini edition collects the opening arc of Bill Willingham and Lan Medina's acclaimed Vertigo series, presenting fairy-tale exiles navigating a very human New York — a premise Publishers Weekly called "eine erstklassige Serie." James Jean's cover art sets the tone beautifully, depicting a crowded subway car filled with figures who feel simultaneously familiar and strange: a dark-haired woman, a wild-eyed creature in a hat, elegantly dressed passengers, and a trumpet player below, all caught in a single vivid, dreamlike moment. Awarded five Eisner Awards, Fables: Legenden im Exil is a wonderful entry point into a world where Märchen und Sagenfiguren live just around the corner from the rest of us.
