Jack of Fables #31

The cover by Brian Bolland sets a wonderfully chaotic scene: a swaggering, long-haired Jack strides forward in jeans and a cowboy hat, pistol raised, leading a crowd of storybook figures that includes a blonde woman in red, a horse, the Tin Woodman reading his own book, and a cast of other Fables — all apparently deep in their own literary pursuits. Written by Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges with interior art by Tony Akins and José Marzán Jr., this April 2009 Vertigo issue carries the teasing tagline that "the secrets of the universe can be revealed by a close reading of..." Jack of Fables. "The Books of War, Volume Four: The Book of Reversals" promises the kind of irreverent, mythology-scrambling storytelling that makes this series such a treat.
