Jack of Fables #27
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThere's something wonderfully unsettling about this December 2008 Vertigo cover by Brian Bolland: a young blonde girl sits cross-legged on her bed, absorbed in a Golden Treasury of Fairy Tales, while a grotesque green hag with a long beak-like snout and clawed hands looms menacingly from the gnarled tree above her — completely unnoticed. Smaller eerie figures lurk among the branches, and stuffed animals and storybooks scattered around the oblivious girl add a layer of charming innocence that makes the lurking threat all the more striking. Written by Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges, with interior art by Russ Braun and inks by José Marzán Jr., this "Turning Pages" chapter looks to be exactly the kind of darkly playful fairy-tale mischief that made Jack of Fables such a distinctive corner of the Vertigo line.
