Fables #128
A glowing, almost spectral figure — sword in hand — stands dwarfed beneath a massive black wolf with burning red eyes against a blood-red sky, and the visual tension between that small, luminous human and the looming beast is quietly arresting. This is issue #128 of Vertigo's long-running Fables, part four of the "Snow White" arc, with a cover by Joao Ruas whose stark, painterly style gives the whole image a nightmarish fairy-tale atmosphere that feels entirely earned. Willingham, Buckingham, Leialoha, and Pepoy continue to deliver one of Vertigo's most compelling ongoing series — and this 2013 chapter looks like no safe moment for anyone involved.
